McCarthyism
The Red Scare in the 1950's was not the first but it made a much more impact in American society. It made the general public fear of communism that was supposedly roaming around the United States. Its called red because the color of communism is red to represent the blood of revolution that the USSR had to undergo to become a communist state. A man named Joseph .R McCarthy came to power during the Red Scare due to his supposed knowledge of who were the communists that had infiltrated the American community and were corrupting the beauty of the American Dream.
Mass Hysteria
Mass Hysteria is not simply a word in the dictionary, its a state of mind that American society has fallen into uncountless times. One large and important examples of these times is the Red Scare.
The Crucible Connections
During the Red Scare a man named Arthur Miller wrote a play called the Crucible and in this play he made direct connections to his own time of period. In his play made very distinct and clear connections to mass hysteria, linking the play and the Red Scare.
Our Thesis
Joseph. R McCarthy had the power to manipulate people's fears and ideas to further his own political agenda.
